think is great music. We hope you agree.
Information
To start up a record label when the whole record industry is whining about records sales being at an all-time-low might not seem very sensible. But that's the whole point: Thanks to new technology it's never been cheaper to produce records, and therefore you don't have to sell as many records to retrieve the initial investments.
How records are sold has also changed. Artists signed to small independent record labels must to a greater extent take more responsibility and engage themselves in record sales. Selling records at live gigs and via homepages is often the only way for these artists to reach their commercial audience.
Internet downloading is usually not a problem for smaller bands and artists outside the record sales charts. Quite the opposite: it's only the bigger artists that are angst-ridden about this development. So feel free to download the music I release, as long as you support the artist by going to a live gig, buy a t-shirt or even the real album.
The strength in Red Top Recordings comes from my background as a concert organiser and my experience working with different aspects of the music industry. Red Top Recordings will not only release records, but also arrange concerts and create a range of quality merchandise.
Most bands and artists today share a different view on their careers than before. They are more aware of the reality of today's record industry and don't just dream about big record deals and world tours. They know it takes a lot of hard work, generally for small returns. And their reason for making albums is their love of music. Since I am a lover of music and the things surrounding it I wanted to find a way to support artists that share my view. A record label is the closest that I can get to the creation of music without having to play it myself.
Music will never die, only its paths will change. / Red Top
